At Southwold Primary School we promote Road Safety to all the children by holding assemblies and running competitions, these are run by our Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO’s).
We run Road Safety Share Afternoon’s when possible, where we invite different people into school, such as the police and lorry drivers, to talk to our children and parents about Seat Belt safety and how to be safe around lorries. We also send out Newsletters to parents and carers reminding them also about road safety and keeping children safe; we even set competitions for parents as well!
We also have a Road Safety Mascot, whose name is chosen by having a competition to select the best name. He can be seen hiding around the school awaiting a child to discover him, when a child does they are awarded a prize.
The JRSO’s compile a scrapbook over the school year which is collection of competitions, photographs of visitors that have come into school in regards to Road Safety and photographs of our Road Safety Notice board which is in the corridor for all to see and is maintained by the JRSO’s and has a different theme each term i.e. Be Safe, Be Seen!
Each Summer Term, our Road Safety Officers visited the annual Road Safety Awards at Ipswich. In 2017 we were awarded Silver for their efforts – Well done Southwold!
